Simple DIY Raised Garden Bed
How to create a sturdy raised garden bed with no tools needed
Spring is coming! Indiana has been getting a tease of warmer weather in the 50-60 degree range. Some affectionally call it the “false spring” before Indiana’s mother nature hits us with another cold wave. Regardless, I am already looking forward to another gardening season that comes with spring. There is something so fulfilling about starting a plant from a seed and nurturing it inside, planting in my raised bed, pruning, weeding, and harvesting beautiful flowers or delicious vegetables with my family. The amount of joy our first vegetable garden brought my oldest daughter and I was priceless last year!
If you are looking for an easy way to get a raised garden bed set up for your own gardening adventure then this is for you! You can head over to your local Lowe’s to get the materials needed for this simple, no tools needed raised bed.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
Steel Rebar (optional)
STEPS TO GET STARTED:
Step 1
Decide on a level area in your yard that gets the right amount of sun for whatever you intend to grow.
Step 2
Next, decide on the design for your raised bed. As long as you use a square shape the variations are many! I recommend drawing out your design so that you can make a list of how many planter blocks and pieces of lumber you need to purchase at the store. I have attached some samples of pictures of my tiered layout and a friend’s rectangular design. Get creative with the space you have available.
Step 3
Now, place planter blocks in the corners of your design. Simply slide the lumber in the grooves of the blocks to create the square or rectangle you desire. No cutting necessary! You can stack the blocks and lumber pattern as high as 2 feet per the product recommendations. If you would like added stability, then you can add the steel rebar down the center of the stacked blocks once everything is in place. I did not use the rebar in my design and it has been sturdy with no problems.
Step 4
Finally, lay the weed matting inside of the raised bed before eventually filling with soil and plants. Then you are all ready to embark on your gardening adventure!
Gardening can be very therapeutic. I hope you find this article helpful in creating the perfect space at your home to grow some joy this season!
