How to Transform a Cosmetic Bag Into a Chic Clutch

A Super Easy 15 Minute Project

One of my absolute most favorite things to do is take something old and make it new! In this tutorial, I'm going to show you how to transform and old cosmetic bag into an adorable clutch. Here are the super easy steps to make your own:

FOR THIS PROJECT YOU WILL NEED:

Makeup or cosmetic bag (I used an old Ipsy bag)

Assorted chain and rhinestone trim

Ribbon

Scissors

Hot glue gun

STEP 1: CUT STRANDS OF TRIM

You'll begin by laying your first piece of trim along the bottom of the side of the cosmetic bag you wish to cover. Cut the strand to fit the width of the bag, making sure to go from one seam to the other.

All of the ribbon, rhinestone strands and embellished trim were purchased from Hobby Lobby. You can buy the trim according to the size you need, however I purchase the entire spools for my classroom.

STEP 2: GLUE THE STRANDS

From here you will begin gluing each strand down with a hot glue gun. If you choose to do a horizontal pattern like I did, be sure to glue the pieces straight or it will be very noticeable on the finished bag. You'll also want to make sure the ends of each strand are glued down neatly and not sticking up.

STEP 3: REPEAT

Repeat the first two steps all the way up the bag, until you cover as much of the bag as you want. You could leave part of the bag exposed if you want, like the picture shown below. For this tutorial, I covered the bag completely.

Once I gathered my supplies, this project took 15 minutes max. Isn't it super cute? Think of all the possibilities with this just by changing up the colors and ribbon patterns! Going to try this one out yourself? I'd love to hear how these projects go for you!
