Spring Rituals

Immerse yourself in this beautiful season with flowers, books, painting and more!

We are in our first week of spring! I absolutely love this time of year. It represents newness, growth, and a sense of reawakening. Nature decides the shift in the seasons, and this year it seemed excited to get an early start. Daffodils are in full bloom with irises and tulips close behind. Birds are singing from sun up to sundown, and thunderstorms have arrived! Can you tell I absolutely love this time of year?

Following my trend of seasonal rituals, I have already started to watch some of my favorite Spring films (Field of Dreams, Emma, Chocolat and Brooklyn), transitioned to floral candles, changed the themes of my artwork, and have also brought out my Spring/Easter home decor!

I think it’s important to immerse yourself in the seasons, especially when living in a location that experiences all four! So here are a few tips to brighten up this season:

Fill Your Home with Flowers

Buy the clearance flowers! My preferred grocery store has a section of flowers that will soon be thrown out, and most of the time they still have so much beauty to give! I will buy the discounted bouquets and put them around my house, and it truly adds more joy to my days.

Reading Material

Find Spring inspired reading material to get you in the mood for the season. Here are a few of my favorites, with their purchase link included:

Emma by Jane Austen

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Late Migrations by Margaret Renkl

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton

Get Creative!

Get creative and enjoy painting florals! Flowers are enjoyable to paint, because there is so much freedom in doing so! Just allow the colors and your own impression of blooms take over. Have fun with it, without the pressure of perfection.

I was in the mood to paint flowers on a black canvas, so that’s exactly what I did!

Feel free to be inspired to do the same!

SUPPLIES

I began by using a larger container of black acrylic paint, and completely covered the canvas, including the sides!!

Fill the entire canvas with simplistic or ornate flowers. Have fun with colors and shapes! Fill all of the empty space with leaves, vines, or even small colorful dots (which still gives the impression of tiny flowers). Enjoy!!

Get Outside!

The best way to immerse yourself in the seasons is to go outside! This is true for ALL seasons. Even if it's just for a mile-long leisurely walk, enjoy the outdoors! Pay attention to the tiniest details and nature will reveal its treasures to you, I promise! You just need to take the time to slow down, observe, and appreciate its wonder.
